🏃 Helping with Forces & Motion

Everything you need to help — without doing it for them.

🎯 What the child needs to learn: The child needs to understand pushes and pulls, gravity and friction in everyday life.

🧭 Simple explanation (for you)

A force is a push or a pull. Gravity pulls things down. Friction slows things when surfaces rub. You use forces every time you open a door, throw a ball or ride a slide.

✨ Example: Example: a ball rolls further on a smooth floor than on carpet — friction is the difference.

❓ Questions to ask

  • “What made it move?”
  • “What slowed it down?”
  • “Where is gravity pulling?”
  • “What would happen on a smoother surface?”

💡 Hints (not answers)

  • Try the same toy on different surfaces
  • Push and pull objects around the house
  • Drop safe objects of different weights
  • Talk about forces on the playground

🏡 Practice activity

The slide test: roll a ball on floor, carpet and towel — predict first, then compare.
