For curious minds ages 3–12

🌱 Helping with Plants

Everything you need to help — without doing it for them.

🎯 What the child needs to learn: The child needs to name plant parts and understand what plants need to grow.

🧭 Simple explanation (for you)

Plants need water, light and air. Roots drink water from the soil, the stem carries it up, leaves catch sunlight to make food, and flowers make seeds.

✨ Example: Example: a bean in a damp paper towel will grow a root, then a shoot — watch it happen over a week!

❓ Questions to ask

  • “What do plants need?”
  • “What does the root do?”
  • “Why do leaves face the light?”
  • “What will happen if we stop watering?”

💡 Hints (not answers)

  • Grow a bean together
  • Label the parts on a drawing
  • Compare two plants: light vs dark
  • Keep a plant journal

🏡 Practice activity

The bean race: grow beans in light and dark, compare them daily — predictions first!
