For curious minds ages 3–12

✏️ Helping with Spelling

Everything you need to help — without doing it for them.

🎯 What the child needs to learn: The child needs to spell by sounds and patterns, not by memorising letter strings.

🧭 Simple explanation (for you)

Say the word slowly and tap one finger per sound. Then think about patterns: -ight (light, right), -tion (station), or the magic "e" (cake, make).

✨ Example: Example: "night" — n-igh-t, three sounds, and the -ight family gives light, right, bright.

❓ Questions to ask

  • “What sounds do you hear?”
  • “How many sounds?”
  • “Does it belong to a word family?”
  • “Can you spell a friend of this word?”

💡 Hints (not answers)

  • Tap sounds before writing
  • Spot the pattern or family
  • Write once from memory tomorrow
  • Celebrate the attempt

🏡 Practice activity

Word family bingo: make a card of -at words and tick them as you spot them all week.
