For curious minds ages 3–12

✍️ Helping with Writing Sentences

Everything you need to help — without doing it for them.

🎯 What the child needs to learn: The child needs to build clear sentences: a who/what, an action, and details.

🧭 Simple explanation (for you)

A sentence needs a naming part and a doing part: "The cat sleeps." Then grow it: "The small cat sleeps on the bed." Add one idea at a time.

✨ Example: Example: "The dog runs." → "The big dog runs." → "The big brown dog runs quickly across the park."

❓ Questions to ask

  • “Who or what is the sentence about?”
  • “What are they doing?”
  • “Can you add a describing word?”
  • “Can you add where or when?”

💡 Hints (not answers)

  • Say the sentence before writing
  • Grow it one word-group at a time
  • Read it aloud to check
  • Improve just one thing

🏡 Practice activity

Sentence ladder: grow one tiny sentence five times, one detail each step.
