After completing this lesson, the child should be able to:
- Understand how the memory palace works
- Build a simple palace with 5 stops
- Use pictures to remember a list and a number
Memory champions use this trick โ and it is over 2,000 years old. Today you build your very first memory palace.
How it works
- Choose a place you know well โ your home.
- Pick a route with 5 stops: front door, shoe rack, kitchen table, sofa, your bed.
- Turn each thing to remember into a funny picture.
- Place one picture at each stop.
- Later, walk the route in your mind and "see" the pictures!
Try it: remember a shopping list
- Front door: a giant milk bottle wearing your shoes.
- Shoe rack: a loaf of bread using the phone.
- Kitchen table: a banana driving the kettle.
- Sofa: toothpaste squeezing itself onto the cushions.
- Bed: an apple wearing your pyjamas.
The sillier the picture, the better it sticks!
Use it for numbers
Numbers are hard to picture โ so EduManual gives each one a picture friend. Try remembering the first digits of pi (3.141592):
Practice
Replay your palace route every evening this week. Memory is a muscle โ every replay makes it stronger!
